Prof. Sven Hendrix

I’m a Full Professor for Neuroanatomy at the Medical School Hamburg, Germany.

For more than a decade, I was the Director of the Doctoral School for Medicine & Life Sciences at Hasselt University in Belgium. In partnership with other colleagues and universities in Belgium, I also organized university and national events to support young scientists in their careers. Recently, I became the speaker of CENE, a career center focused on academic career development across multiple universities in Germany.

In my current role, I’ve found a great career and life harmony. However, like many scientists, my career has been an emotional roller-coaster, jumping between many different jobs and countries. I discovered my passion for science studying medicine in Berlin (Germany). I did a lot of research there and was also very mobile. I studied in Parma (Italy) with ERASMUS. I did research stays in Hamamatsu (Japan), Harvard (USA) as well as London (UK). I moved back to Berlin and worked for six years in an anatomy department. Then, after two tedious years of applying for a limited number of professor positions in Germany, I started looking internationally. I managed to secure three attractive offers from Imperial College (UK), University of Southern Denmark (Denmark), and Hasselt University (Belgium). After negotiating for several weeks and weighing up the different options, I moved to Belgium in 2008. In 2020, I moved back to Germany and became Professor for Neuroanatomy at the Medical School Hamburg.

Navigating my science career has been a long and challenging journey, so I’m excited to help make it easier for young scientists. Through this course, I will share my experience, as well as bringing you the best advice from other star and role model scientists.

Testimonial: “I loved the course because it guided me step-by-step through an introspective journey exploring career possibilities. It provided further strategies and resources to implement a desired career”.

Mayya S.

Testimonial: “I was familiar with the smart science career blog and since these topics were very interesting and useful for a (junior) scientist, I did not hesitate to subscribe to the course. The career path of a scientist is unpredictable and my biggest concern was what to do after a PhD or post-doc period. Should I stay in academics or not? This course gave me clarity whether I wanted to go for an academic career or not and what the alternatives are. During this course you learn how to look for a job that is really suitable for you by applying strategies that are totally different then the common way of job searches. Besides these extremely useful tips, you learn a lot about yourself and what you really want. Sven, the coach, is very helpful and has a personal approach to guide you through the course. I would definitely recommend the course to anyone who is struggling with what to do after a(n) (academic) study (let it be master, PhD or post-doc) as I already recommended it to some of my colleagues!”

Bram Janssen, Belgium

Testimonial: ”The course is a step wise guide to reach clarity regarding which career one wants to pursue. It was thought-provoking, introspective and it gave me useful advice on how to network and have informational interviews."

Ojas D., Spain

Testimonial:

"The course was very useful. First of all, I got a much more informed and grounded view on the diversity of career paths for scientists, and which of these are options worth considering for myself. Second, it helped to visualize and start a plan in which I invest my energy smartly into a career and build it, rather than follow it. I look forward to seeing all this materializing in the near and far future. You can also see that Sven puts authentic interest to guide and help young scientists. Thanks Sven!"

Laura F., Denmark

Testimonial: “I wanted to thank you. Your course has helped me so much. It's amazing how the way I face colleagues and experts in my area has changed. Now I see them as a huge source of information and support."

Luciana S., Chile

"I followed your advice and have talked to some interesting people about their career. One was very prone to help young scientists and took me somehow as a mentee. She liaised me with two more people, which was great. Later, one even invited me to apply for a position at her institution that looks very exciting. Either your method is very good or I am very good, or maybe both ;P"

The next week will start again with a recorded coaching call. After the course, you get a free personal bonus coaching call! That's what you get: You will find clarity and peace of mind. You will know exactly what to do to find your way. You will know exactly which career to choose and how to correct your path regularly. You will use well-tested methods to find clarity and to make better choices than 99% of all other scientists in your field.
Is there a bonus included?
Yes, at the end of the course, you get a free bonus coaching call to address specific questions you have about your personal career plan.
Why is the course so cheap? Is it any good?
I am aware that there are very costly career development courses out there that may cost between 1000 and 3000 dollars/EUR (I took a few of those myself!). Thus, the price is indeed very low for such a complex and efficient course that also includes a bonus personal coaching call at the end. However, I want to make this course available to as many young researchers as possible. Anyway, I have doubled the price since I initially launched it, I can not promise that I will not increase the price in the next round.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes! I want you to be happy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact me in the first 14 days, and I will give you a full refund. You could theoretically take the whole course, then ask for your money back and get it free. Am I crazy? No, I trust you, and I know that my course participants are going to get results.
How can I enroll in the course?
At the end of this page, you can choose to pay the full price or select a payment plan . Then click the enroll button. You will be forwarded to the enrollment page to provide your contact information and payment details. You can pay with a credit card or Google Pay.
How do I access the training?
You will receive an email with the access details as well as several emails each week to lead you to the next video or mini task.
How much time will I have to commit to this course?
This is a concise, 4-weeks online course. About every second day, you will receive an email with new content. You will receive either a video (30-60 minutes) or bite-sized minitasks. If you stick to it, you have to invest about four times 10 to 30 minutes per week to do the exercises. Of course, you are free to be much more ambitious and invest much more time in your career.
How long will the course be available?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own. Just in case I may ever have to close my school, you can download all videos and keep them forever.
I have no time now. Will you offer this course again?
The course will be closed for at least 4 to 6 months to make sure that I can give all participants my full attention. However, my schedule is already packed, and I just don't know if I'll have time to keep doing this. So this may truly be the ONLY opportunity to ever see what's inside the training.
When does the course start?
You will receive the first course material a few hours after you join. And you get LIFETIME ACCESS to the course. That means if you fall behind, you can get back into the course material at your own convenience. And any time I add new stuff to the course, you will get it -- free. All videos are downloadable to your computer or phone. Thus, if you have work obligations or a family event, you can just wait until you get back and pick right back up.
How do you know I'll follow through on this course?
About every second day, you will receive either a video (30-60 minutes) or bitesized minitasks. You need only 10 to 15 minutes per minitask. This is to make it so that you don't get overwhelmed and do reach substantial clarity about your scientific career.
Do I get to ask you questions specifically?
It is advised that you send me the answers to the exercises for accountability reasons. I will read them all, and sporadically I will comment on them. At the end of the course, you get - as a bonus - a personal coaching call to address specific questions you have.
What makes this course different?
To my knowledge, this is the ONLY course worldwide that gives you a proven method to find your ideal career – specifically for scientists. There are many career development courses out there. You can easily pay 1000 to 3000 dollars for a course to find your dream job. However, all these courses have one major flaw – they are not adapted to the specific needs of young scientists who might either pursue a career in academia, an industry job, or a job in the public or social sector. This course is specially designed for scientists and their specific needs.
